Maybe you’ve seen the expression “there is no more optimistic act in the art world than to open a new gallery”. It’s also true that the fine art community is incredibly generous and supportive. I’m fortunate for the many contributions of time, experience, and money to support my efforts to bring exhibition opportunities to fine art photographers.

I launched my gallery, Peter Miller Fine Art in 2014 to fill an unmet need within the fine art photography community in Providence Rhode Island. When I moved to California in 2017 I transitioned the gallery to a non-profit organization, Providence Center for Photographic Arts. Both organizations were very successful in achieving their mission.

Along the Way I Had a Lot of Help

Paula Tongarelli Director of the Griffin Museum of Photography, Julie Grahame, publisher of aCurator.com, and photographer Rob Van Petten all jurored exhibits. Their participation drew participants to apply to jurored exhibits which provided much of the funding to sustain the operation of the gallery.

A group of dedicated individuals contributed countless hours as the Board of Directors of Providence Center for Photographic Arts. David DeMelim, Ronald W. Dunbar, Jr., Rosemary Marchetta, Steve Szydlowski, and Tim Tolman all helped PCPA fulfill it’s mission in fine art photography.

The New England arts media covered the launch of my gallery, Peter Miller Fine Art in Providence Rhode Island and many of the exhibits that I curated from 2014 to 2016. Media support helped draw wall-to-wall crowds to openings and elevated the exposure of the exhibiting artists. Special thanks go to Elin Spring and her very informative blog “What Will You Remember”.
